a fun night at schubas

sarah, chester and i made our way to schubas in chicago this past saturday for the sondre lerche show. with the help of sarah's friends, we stood right up at the stage...the show was fantastic! the opening act, JBM, was incredible... so talented and fun to watch. i'm currently obsessed with his cd "not even in july". and, of course, sondre was awesome! and so funny...he had us cracking up half the show. it's so cool to see artists perform when they are so excited about their music. i would definitely recommend seeing him if you get the chance.

here are some photos that jerry took at the show.

i love this song...

"so whose to worry
if our hearts get torn
when that hurt gets thrown
don't you know this life goes on
and won't you kiss me
on that midnight street
sweep me off my feet
singing ain't this life so sweet..."

billie jean.....billie jean... :(

i am so excited for this summer...

seriously...it's going to be amazing...

i love ingrid michaelson :)

let's take a better look
beyond a storybook
and learn our souls are all we own
before we turn to stone

let's go to sleep with clearer heads
and hearts too big to fit our beds
and maybe we won't feel so alone
before we turn to stone

fun times at the cubs game

i did it...

i broke down today and ordered one of these! i can't wait! my diana+ is making a comeback in my life ;)

new projects

two fun new projects i've done recently :)

i bought this cute bag pattern off etsy about a week ago. when my joel dewberry fabric arrived in the mail, i brought all the supplies home and my mom and i sewed up a storm ;) (she did the majority of the sewing, since i'm still pretty new to her machine). i absolutely LOVE it! it turned out awesome, thanks to mama kelly. it took us about 3 hours to finish it, but i think the next time around will go much faster. i plan on making a few for the etsy shop, so stay tunned!

*i'm still completely in love with his woodgrain fabric :)

i had some fabric left over from a few log pillows, and i decided to make this little guy. it was my first attempt at sewing stumps on a log "pillow". turned out pretty good ;) this little dude is going up in the shop as soon as i can take more pics of him

next up i'm planning on making a few brooches, along with a bag and more pillows for the shop :)

and good times were had by all...

snagged a few photos of last night's festivities from jon's camera :)

the etsy shop is up!!!

very excited about the opening of the "opposite day" shop on etsy this evening :) tim and i have a few items each to get started (that are all ready to be shipped) while we are working on more additions. i made three new log pillows, with fun little accents and tim released his super cool shoe designs. we're pretty excited! check it out

my new camera! yes, another one ;)

for the past year or so, i've really embraced analog photography, and mostly have been obsessing over the lomo cameras. i still love my digital, but i've had a lot of fun with film. most recently i've been reading up on this shooting "through the viewfinder" thing, which combines analog and digital in a really cool way. you take a photograph with one camera by shooting through the viewfinder of another camera. this blog goes does a great job of walking you through the process and provides other excellent resources. also, there is a flickr group that's worth checking out :) very cool pics.

i'm really excited to experiment with TtV photography. i snagged this beauty, an argus seventy-five twin lens reflex camera, online last week and just got it this afternoon :)

and here is my first shot. this is definitely a tricky way of shooting! it's gonna take lots of practice, but i'm looking forward to the learning process :)

haha, and here's my roomie jon! it cracked me up when i saw his face in there, it looks like he's trapped in the camera ;) this would be a fun photo session to do with some friends.

happy valentine's day

my valentines!

just finished my handmade valentines and shoebox for work tomorrow :) hopefully i'll place in the contest...hahaha. and i'm pretty excited for the free people valentine swap as well! i'll post pics of the results ;)

funny

a while ago, my friend was telling me about this new term for taking pictures of someone without them knowing about it, called kinnearing (and yes, it's referencing greg kinnear)

definition according to the New York Times:

kinnear v.
to take a candid photograph surreptitiously, especially by holding the camera low and out of the line of sight. coined in august by stephanie pearl-mcphee of the yarn harlot blog when she attempted to take a photograph during an encounter with the actor greg kinnear at an airport.

just thought this was funny. i kinda want to go on a kinnear photo adventure sometime ;) hahaha, probably impossible to do without looking creepy as hell.

"be careful what you wish for"

just saw "coraline" and really loved it! it was very well done and seeing it in 3D was pretty incredible. at times it reminded me of "pan's labyrinth" a bit, and some of it was kinda twisted...but in a cool way (i'm not sure i'd recommend it for younger children). i really liked the characters a lot too. go check it out!

windy city rollers

met up with some good friends last night and headed out to UIC to watch the windy city rollers in action. those girls are intense! my good friend is actually trying out for the team soon, i can't wait to see her out there kicking some ass! it was a lot of fun, can't wait for the next game :)

another fabulous weekend full of photos!

took a bunch of polaroids at jeremy's party on saturday...everyone seemed to dig the instant pics :) it was a lot of fun and i got to catch up with quite a few people from school. (i uploaded most of the pics on facebook.)

*my friends tony and jon

on sunday i met up with my friend kristine for another fabulous photo adventure! we bundled up and braved the cold out at busse woods with 12 purple balloons and several cameras ;) it was FREEZING but i had so much fun with her! and we got some amazing pics out of it, so it was more than worth it. we agreed that our next photo adventure would be in warmer weather tho ;)

i had a hard time picking pictures to put in this post because i loved them ALL. hahaha, but here are a few. the rest of the "purple snow balloons" series can be found on my flickr here
this one is from my fuji instax camera. i was freaking out when we started taking pics with this one because it looked like the film wasn't going to develop :( but it ended up just being a slow process because it was so cold out. i attempted to speed up the process by sticking the picture right by my car heater. lol, thus the "defects" in this shot. but i kinda like it :) looks interesting

some of my other favorites from my lomo cameras :) the colors came out so vibrant! and kristine made an excellent moving/jumping/dancing subject :)

by kristine reyes from her "Purple Tundra" series...her pics are amazing! can't wait to see her holga ones :)

so yea, good photo weekend for SURE! now on to making log pillows for peeps ;)

PRESIDENT Obama!

"...to those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society's ills on the west - know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you can destroy. to those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of disset, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench you fist."     -President Barack Obama

"for what it's worth...

it's never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. there's no time limit, stop whenever you want. you can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. we can make the best or the worst of it. i hope you make the best of it. and i hope you see things that startle you. i hope you feel things you never felt before. i hope you meet people with a different point of view. i hope you live a life you're proud of. if you find that you're not, i hope you have the strength to start all over again."   - benjamin button

this guy is amazing!

i love when i *rediscover* bill ricchini's cd "tonight i burn brightly". i seem to listen to it for a for a few weeks, then turn to something else for a while, and when i go back to it, i can't believe i ever put it away :)  it is awesome, and always puts me in a good mood :)

this is me, obamafied! hahaha, saw a tweet from my friend kristine about this obamaicon.me

i miss summer...

instax fun :)

movie reviews

saw this over the holidays with the family and thought it was amazing! it tells the story of a kid from the slums of mumbai in an incredible way. go check it out, you won't be disappointed.

saw this just last week with some of the C22 crew. it's a great movie, surprisingly funny and heartfelt at times, and clint eastwood is such a badass! gotta check this one out too.
